Can I rent a cellphone?
A. Yes! The school rents cellphones for 1000 yen per week. Nothing more is required to receive phone calls, even from abroad, as receiving calls is free in Japan. However, to make calls, you need to buy prepaid “airtime”, available from Softbank shops. The closest Softbank shop to the school is here. Please note that the school will not buy back any airtime you have remaining when you leave. If you want to buy your own cellphone, Softbank is the only company still offering prepaid phones in Japan.
