yes you can, but the housing authority will only give you a limit, depending on how many children you have…. My cousin is in the same situation as you, and i think she was in titled to 350 per month? My advice is find how much you are in titled to and when filling in the forms only put what you are intitled to…if you put more 500 on the form and Your only in titled to 350 (say the rent is 350 and you want to make up the 150 yourself) don’t tell the housing that, otherwise they wont give you the rent! sounds a little confusing, i know but if you tell them you will make up the rest yourself they’ll think “well if she can afford to spare 150 a month, she doesn’t need rent allowance” Just be careful, when filling in forms!
