Can gang culture films effect teenagers?

We live in a society in which the simplistic brain-dead programming of MTV influences teenagers. So yes, I believe that films depicting gang culture as cool can have a negative effect on the behavior of teens. That’s where parents need to step in and teach kids right from wrong.

i’m a teenager and have 2 teenage brothers and we’ve watched an extensive number of films, including many gang culture ones.however, none of us have been influenced by them in any way. people often blame these films and music for the increasing violence in society, yet personally, i believe that it is the environment and not the films that effect youth.also, although these films make show that drugs are supposedly “cool” they will not have an effect on youth, if their parents, teachers and peers have all shown a distaste to the drug culture. That said, i find that younger teens are more influential than their older counterparts and they could be swayed into this thinking, hope that helped!

I hate to disappoint you by giving two answers to this question, but some can be effected by gang culture films whereas other wont. Everyone is individual, personally I loved films about gangs when I was a kid, but I never turned to a life of crime or became a drug addict. You do hear about people who have violent films/books/comics in their possession and go on murderous rampages though. On the plus side, if films can influence people in such a negative way, it can only be expected that the same films can influence people in a positive way as well, they may be so freaked out by what they witness that they do all they can to avoid these situations at all costs.

Hmm.. well it really depends on what type of teenager is watching a “gang culture film” I guess. Also depending on how the film presents gang culture, drugs etc If gang culture and drugs are portraid as a positive thing, well I will assume alot of young teenage boys will percieve the film as a “cool” thing…but only too a certain extent again depending on the teenager/up bringing/culture and views. Then again most gang films are not presented in a positve way, lots are based on true stories and similar stories that have hapenned in the passed and most end with an unhappy ending. Gang culture also can come from many different nationalities around the world.
