We fully support the notion of a fully automated environment, but you have to use the right mix of tools to properly achieve that goal. ControlTier is really designed to deploy and manage business services that span multiple nodes. In the wild, you’ll often find ControlTier working in conjunction with an OS provisioning solution (as explained in separate faq entry). For example, you might use a combination of tools like Kickstart and Puppet to build and configure your OS image. ControlTier would then install, configure, and startup the application tier across the OS images. Whether you go for deeper integration of just run the tools side-by-side, what you get in the end is a fully automated environment.
