Nurses who are trained to prescribe from the Nurse Prescribers’ Extended Formulary are able to issue private prescriptions for any of the medicines on the Formulary. As with prescriptions issued on the NHS, nurses should restrict their prescribing to the medical conditions listed in PartXVIIB(ii) of the Drug Tariff and in the BNF. Supplementary prescribers may also issue private prescriptions for any medicines covered by the Clinical Management Plan.
