Homeschooling is an educational choice that some parents have made for their children.  Herein children are educated in their own home.  A lot of parents have chosen to do this because they are frustrated by corrupt school boards, a lack of religious instruction, teachers who are underpaid and unsafe conditions.  Whenever parents choose homeschooling, they are able to spend more time together as a family and have more control over what their children learn.

There are actually a lot of advantages to homeschooling, including:

    • Children get a one-on-one education as their parents work directly with them.  This is better than learning in a classroom with 20 or 30 other children.
    • Children are able to learn things faster and won’t lag behind due to their lack of understanding.
    • Children get to spend more time with their family, instead of just a few hurried evening hours.
    • Children are safe in their own home.  They don’t have to worry about bullies or knives and guns.
    • Children are less likely to be influenced by peer pressure.  This means that they are less likely to get involved with drugs and alcohol.
    • Parents get to choose their children’s curriculum and work at their children’s pace.  This means that the children will be able to learn the material instead of simply “get by.”

There are also some disadvantages to homeschooling as well, including:

    • Homeschooling can be lonely if the children don’t have lots of opportunities to socialize.
    • Parents will need to seek out activities for their children to be involved in.
    • Parents must spend their days teaching their children instead of being around other adults.
    • If children need specialized services, they may not get them if they don’t attend school.

Parents really are the only ones who can choose what’s best for their children.  In order to make your decision about homeschooling, you will need to do some research so that you will be able to weigh the pros and cons.  Once you do, congratulate yourself for making the best decision for your child in regards to their education.
