Just last week Michael Vick was said to be inaccurate and unable to run the westcoast offense. Kevin Kolb was the heir apparent to run head coach Andy Reid’s westcoast offense, that would lead to a Superbowl run in a couple of years. What a difference one game can make.

Kolb, who was anemic on Sunday, went 5 for 10 for just 24 yards and could have easily thrown a couple of interceptions. However, the Packers defensive backs had just as much trouble catching Kolb’s passes as his own wide receivers. The Philadelphia offensive line did not do Kolb any favors, as Packers’ linebacker Clay Matthews was a one-man wrecking crew with two vicious sacks, one of which knocked Kolb out with a concussion. Kolb did not return after halftime with the score was 13 – 3.

Enter Michael Vick. Passing for 175 yards and rushing for another 103 yards, Vick was a breath of fresh air for the vanilla offense. You started to remember why so many called Michael Vick "the human joystick". The Eagles were suddenly outplaying the Superbowl favorites Green Bay Packers. A critical 4th and 1 call with two minutes left caused Vick and the Eagles to come up short, 27 – 20, but a statement was made by Michael Vick. Thus the stage has been set for good ol” quarterback controversy.

Minutes after the game was over, sports radio was already buzzing about a quarterback change in Philly. In sports, and in life for that matter, we live in a very "what have you done for me lately" society. This kind of thinking is just ludicrous, but most fans will always feel the strongest about what they have seen that player do last. This especially goes for fans in Philadelphia, New York, and any other huge sports towns. Us as fans hate to lose. Andy Reid now has a dilemma of having a pro-bowl quarterback making 5 million dollars, and is right now better then Kevin Kolb. These are the type of situations that are bound to happen when you have a backup of Vick’s skill level.

Is Michael Vick at this point a better quarterback than Kevin Kolb? Of course. Should Michael Vick takeover the role as the Eagles starting quarterback? Of course not. I know fans of Philadelphia do not want to hear this, but the Eagles are not going to win a Superbowl this year. If this was the case, Donavon McNabb would still be in his midnight green uniform, instead of suiting up for the Redskins. This is a young team that has their receivers and team building around Kevin Kolb. I know it is difficult for fans to except that a team will not be making a Superbowl run for a couple of years, but there is no reason to plug-in a quarterback who will most likely not even be with the team next season. First-year quarterbacks are going to struggle. You do not have to look far to find a similar situation to Kevin Kolb’s. Aaron Rodgers, who was on the bench behind hall-of-famer Brett Favre for three years before he got his turn, also had tons of pressure and high expectations. There were games where Rodgers really looked completely lost, and there were others where you saw his greatness. He has now figured everything out in his third year as a starter, and is known as the best young quarterback in the league. This shows us that the term the Eagles fans will have to get used to with Kevin Kolb is "patience". However, there is no doubt that a lot of fans will be tempted to get a "Quick fix from Vick" this season.
