The Hi-Point JHP is a relatively inexpensive semi-automatic .45 caliber handgun manufactured by Hi-Point Firearms. It features a single-stack magazine with a nine round capacity, giving the JHP a total potential capacity of 10 rounds of .45 ACP ammunition when it is loaded with a full magazine and a round in the chamber. This is commonly referred to as a 9+1 capacity. While most handguns have the capability to be field-stripped without the need for any tools, the Hi-Point JHP requires several tools in order for it to be properly disassembled.  As with any firearm, it is necessary to ensure that it is not loaded before you attempt to disassemble it.

    Things You’ll need
    1/8-inch pin punch
    Hammer
    Needle nose pliers

    Step 1
Eject the magazine. To eject the magazine, press the magazine eject button located on the bottom of the grip behind the magazine well. Pull the magazine completely out of the magazine well and set it aside.

    Step 2
Pull the slide back to its farthest rearward position. Raise the slide lock lever into the notch in the slide. This will secure the slide and expose the retention pin at the rear of the frame. While the slide locked back, check the chamber to make sure that a round is not loaded into the barrel.

    Step 3
Place the pin punch over the retention pin that was exposed when the slide was locked back and tap it out of the rear of the frame. If the pin does not fall freely from the frame of the pistol, pull it out the remainder of the way with the pliers.

    Step 4
Lower the slide lock lever with your thumb and allow the slide to return to its forward position.

    Step 5
Pull the slide backward approximately 3/8 of an inch and lift the rear end of the slide upward. The rear end of the slide will disengage from the frame.

    Step 6
Hold the rear of the slide up and push the slide forward. This will completely disconnect the slide from frame. You can now perform any cleaning or maintenance to your Hi-Point.

    Step 7
Reverse the disassembly process to reassemble your JHP.

Note: Never attempt to perform any maintenance on a loaded firearm. Doing so can cause property damage, serious injury or death.
