Children’s literature is an area that is full of fun, excitement and learning. This is an area of literature that is just not for children but is for everyone. Children’s literature is chance to relive some childhood memories or a chance to teach a new generation how to live and still have fun using their imaginations and get away from the computer screen for awhile at least.
I have just finished reading A.A. Milne’s Winnie-the-Pooh collection and enjoyed these books very much. The adventures of Pooh and Piglet and the others let me remember what I did when walking in the woods near my house back in the day. I would build a small cabin and a few things I would find laying around the woods and pretend that I was one of the characters from the books and have an adventure like when Pooh and Piglet went after Heffalumps or what ever my thoughts brought to mind.
Children’s literature is an area that can be used in all the concept areas besides reading. This is an area that can be use in science and social studies as well as in art and music classes. The books that could be used in these areas could be Charlotte’s Web, Bridge to Terabithia, Holes, Johnny Tremain, etc. There are many picture books that can also be used to teach various lessons. There will be other articles that will be written on just how to use these books in the classroom in the near future, but this article is mainly just an introduction to the field.
