Will he be breeding for specific traits? Zebra finches are colony breeders. They do better in one large aviary, not many smaller ones. The ideal breeding setup for zebra finches would be: One large main cage for the breeding: A minimum of 8 feet wide by 12 feet long by about 8 feet (or so) tall. Then you would need to have a cage for the extra females and a cage for the extra males. These two aviaries should be a minimum of 6-8 feet wide by 10-12 feet long and about 8 feet (or so) tall. The males will fight over the females if there are not enough females for all the males, that is why you need two cages, one for the females and one for the males. You will also need to keep them separated so you don’t have to worry about selling a female that is sitting on eggs or currently raising babies. You will also need to be able to keep track of which babies come from which parents to avoid too much inbreeding which can cause birth defects. A couple of the most common are cross beak and splay fo
