You’ve worked with Akon, one of music’s hottest producers. What was that like?
I friggin’ love him. He’s been just such a support for me. Doing this project, my music is just so not typical of what you see him be a part of. That’s how genuine he is. He hired me to write for Tami Chynn. That’s how I actually met him. Then I played him my records, and he jumped on “Just Dance.” He was like, “I love this record.” It was just so organic. He’s so amazing. He’s been going with me to radio stations in the U.S. and pushing it to Top 40 radio stations. We all believe it’s a pop record. I just can’t say enough good things about him. I think the media portrays him in the worst, wrong way, but I’ll never say anything but great things about him. You’re opening for New Kids on the Block. Oh, they’re so great. I love them. I’m good friends with them. I worked with them on their album, which was awesome. They’ve been super kind to me. I’m opening for them on their tour right now. It’s been really exciting.
