It is DTA’s understanding that currently dental technicians’ are not allowed to take impressions directly and on their own. Although the individual can develop impression taking skills for use under the authority of a dentist in the clinic. Such extended Scope of Practice action requires that the dental technician has also had appropriate training to become competent in the new skill, is inoculated against blood borne viruses and has appropriate indemnity insurance to cover the extended skills.
