The planet that hit the young Earth did not ACTUALLY have a name, as there were no humans around to name it. However, because “the planet that hit the young Earth” is too long to keep saying, scientists have given it the names “Theia” or “Orpheus.” Theia was the Greek goddess who gave birth to Selene, so it is appropriate, given that Selene was goddess of the Moon.
