You have said that education, specifically the K-12 segment, is a fast-growing business for Bell & Howell. What are the key drivers for growth here?
First, enrollment is up and is expected to keep climbing for several years. Second, increased funding from Washington and other sources is enabling school libraries, classrooms and dorm rooms to integrate new research and teaching technology – especially technology for Internet access. Third, teachers today want to use more relevant information and primary- source material in their curricula. We can give them that. At the same time, schools are showing much greater interest in our resources for use of the Internet – with its ease of access and vast range of information – than they previously showed in our microfilm and CD-ROM offerings. Already, ProQuest® is in more than 17,000 K-12 schools serving more than 10 million students throughout the United States. So while the K-12 market is today only 10 percent of our business, it’s by far the fastest growing segment and an exciting growth opportunity.
