Managed devices are any device the Codima Discovery Engine get management information from, i.e., not ones that are just addresses in the ARP/Routing/Forwarding tables or devices that we just know exist because they respond to pings and reverse DNS, but devices that give the system information, such as the type of device it is or in the case of SNMP and WMI provide a lot of internal information on configuration etc. The Discovery engine uses a number of methods including SNMP, WMI, CDP, SIP Queries and NetBIOS to get management information. Note: Users who also have autoVoIP tool installed will have access to extra information on SIP phones. These SIP Phones would also be included in the license count as they are devices where we have learned more that just the IP address and name.
