y family can only stay for a short time, what programs are the most important?
It is a good idea to review the Orientation schedule before coming to campus. That way you and your family can decide which events are most important to you. We provide many programs specifically for parents and families including a presentation on college parenting, Panther Parents Association information sessions, and a continental breakfast just for parents. An important event for both students and parents is Provost James Maher’s Pathway to Your Success at Pitt presentation. And new this year, just for parents, is a special session with Vice Provost and Dean of Students Kathy Humphrey titled Educating the Whole Student: What Every Parent Should Know. Also, it is common for parents and families to attend together both Freshman Convocation and the Chancellor’s Welcome Picnic. Transitioning to college is a big milestone for a student and family involvement is encouraged.
