Would you say the basic cultural identity of the US was created during the 18th century?
NO it was in the 20th century that the propaganda and hype that created the mythos of American history was formed. IIt has now got to the stage that this has become dogma and American teachers are not allowed to teach anything that opposes it. This is what has formed the cultural identity of the US more than anything else.
