Odors in Carpeting On most carpets, what appears to be a surface problem generally involves at least the carpet’s nap and backing, nearly always the padding, and often the floor under the padding. The padding acts like a concentrator for the urine residue. This is because most padding is made of a composite sponge material that can hold a large volume of liquid. As the liquid slowly evaporates (though the carpet) and spreads into an ever widening circle in the padding, the urine residue (mostly urea salt) deposits and accumulates in the padding. Repeated applications of urine result in more concentrated deposits and larger areas of residue. When the padding becomes saturated with liquid in an area, the liquid soaks into the flooring under the padding which allows the carpet above to stay wet for a much longer time and produce much more odor. This is why a urine contamination problem can go undetected for weeks or months and then all at once become a big problem. If you have and Orienta
Customer Reviews 16 ounce OdorXit Concentrate odor remover for pet and other tough odors 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful: 5.0 out of 5 stars Does the job, September 8, 2008 By Cats4NY – See all my reviews OdorXit almost immediately elimimates the nasty smell of cat urine. I have used it on various surfaces and it does the job. I have used other products, but they didn’t kill the odor immediately. Follow the instructions that come with OdorXit, it is a different product than the enzyme cleaners. You have to clean the area first with an appropriate cleaner and then spray the OdorXit. I didn’t mind the extra work because the cat urine odor was completely gone after I finished spraying the OdorXit and I felt the surface was really clean. The only negative thing is that it does have a strong odor of its own, which does dissipate after awhile, but, in my opinion, it is a heck of a lot better than cat urine odor.
