Would You Prefer Tax Money Spent in in Iraq or New Orleans?
1. No money was diverted from the levee system to pay for anything else in Louisiana, much less to pay for “tourist areas” or building the Superdome. The levee system failed because it was insufficiently designed and built by the US Army Corps of Engineers, which is a FEDERAL agency. 2. I see stuff posted all the time about helicopters being shot at in New Orleans during the crisis of the first week. Show me one helicopter with bullet holes in it. 3. I see stuff posted all the time about how “the entire police department” deserted or is corrupt. NOPD had about 1700 officers at the time Katrina struck and 85% of them stayed at their posts in apcalyptic conditions. There were about 10 complaints of “looting by police”, and most were found to be not true. 4. Iraq and New Orleans are apples & oranges, but the amount of money being spent on rebuilding NOLA is a tiny, tiny fraction of what is being spent in Iraq. We can afford to pay for both. 5. Finally, rebuilding New Orleans is not option
