Would you please clarify the recommendations for giving Tdap to a child who did not receive the last DTaP dose in the series?
The first thing to consider is the child’s age. If the child is between 7 and 9 years of age, complete the series with Td and when the booster is due, between 11 and 18 years of age, use Tdap. If the child is currently between 10 and 18 years of age, you can use one dose of Tdap in when completing the series. If more than one dose is indicated to complete the series, Tdap can be used for only one of those doses. Remember Boostrix® is approved for children 10-18 years of age and Adacel™ is approved for persons 11-64 years of age. They are both approved for only one dose, not multiple doses in a series.
