Would you have wanted to work as closely with him as Zachary Quinto did with Leonard Nimoy?
PINE: I was a little nervous meeting him. It’s one thing to write a letter and a whole other thing entirely to say “Hey, man! Nice to meet you. I’m that young kid who is playing your part!” He’s a warm, wonderful guy. There was no kind of sizing each other up or anything like that. I hope sometime soon to be able to have a chance to sit down with him a bit longer and shoot the breeze. I know that if I had the indomitable presence of Mr. Shatner on set, it would have been hard for me to carve my own niche. I felt that the most important part of my job was to feel free enough to do my own work. What Mr. Shatner did will never be copied. It’s that specific and that culturally iconic. You watch the show. You know what Kirk does. What resonated for me were certain physical things. The best that I could do was watching the series to pick up little nuances here and there.
