Hey, I’m in exactly the same situation! I am 13 weeks pregnant and looked into all the possibilities, in SE London including giving birth in France where we have a holiday home, but in London Lewisham is by far my closest hospital. Like you, this is my first child, so I can’t offer experience of birth in either hospital, but after much consideration I came to the view that I would go with Lewisham. Yes, I know what people say – it is old and looks run down – yes, it is an old hospital but the maternity block is brand new. I have also been a patient in Lewisham for a non maternity matter some years ago. I basically came to the view that unless I went private – ie at st Mary’s Paddington or the private unit at St Thomas’s, (paying £10k plus to do so) then I was better off at Lewisham.
