They got me once, but never again. I was watching that “Great Big British Quiz” channel about a day after its launch on Sky and saw a puzzle that I thought I knew the answer to. People were phoning up with an answer and it was wrong so I thought I’d try calling and give my answer, as a £1 outlay didn’t seem that much for a potential £200 prize. That was when I realised that it was a lottery, and that most calls don’t even get through to the studio, but you still get charged £1 to hear “sorry please try again”. I tried again a few more times but still didn’t get through the first stage. And when I did get through to the second stage before the dog barked or whatever, I still wasn’t picked. Thankfully, having spent about £10, someone else called in and gave “my” answer, but it was still wrong. To this day, I still don’t know how they worked out the answer to this question – it seemed almost impossible and could have had any number of solutions. I resolved there and then never to ring ano
