Would you be embarrassed to use WIC coupons or food stamps if you needed them?
You need the assistance why be embarrassed for? My Husband was laid off from his work earlier this year, just 2 months before I was due. I only work part time so it wasn’t enough. We tried our best, but had to give in to assistance. We qualify for WIC and Medicaid but no Food Stamps since we make too much. The time we were accepted I was on Disability and he was on EDD. Before we were accepted I had to get health insurance for my kids through the state which I made monthly payments for. They are most important so their needs go first. It’s gotten tougher but we are handling it quite well. With the economy the way it is it isn’t easy in finding a job. My Husband is still Jobless, but it’s okay since he is at home caring our newborn. In the meantime we will look for jobs together since I know working Part Time isn’t enough.
I am on WIC and its not that I’m embarressed it the whole process of using WIC Everything is on its own little check. For example I have twins and I qualify for 4 cans of juice instead of putting 4cans on 1check I have 4 seperate checks for 1 can each.It is very time consuming for me, the cashier, and the customers behind me who I warn I’m going to be a long while. So, maybe its not embarresment your feeling its the frustration that comes with it.I thank God evryday for providing me with WIC b/c with twins (premature)on special formula I don’t think I would have made it.WIC is nothing to be embarressed of, but maybe they can just improve the system like giving a card like they do for food stamps now.Like you I am a hardworking nurse who fell on hard times, my twins were premature and spent months in NICU so I am unable to work at the moment in order to provide the best care for my children. So don’t be embarressed and nevermind what other ppl think.Listen, stuff happens, but your doing so
Most other shoppers won’t know what WIC is. I remember being embarassed too. But that’s what it’s there for, for temporary aid for mothers. We all do what we have to do to get to better stations in life, and for the health and welfare of our children. There’s no shame in using public monies to which you and your family have contributed for that. Keep your head up, and Goddess bless you and your family!
They dont give out actual stamps anymore. They give you an ebt card, and the WIC stuff looks like regular coupons and in most stores they wont even give it a look… they are just trying to get you in and out. But you should never be ashamed of government assistance. This is a community it is out duty to help eachother out! You seen like hard working people down on their luck. You are doing right by your family, that is nothing to be embarrassed about.
