Would vegetarians still eat vegetables if they knew the risk to their health?

We don’t eat much meat, but we’re not vegetarians – we eat a lot of fish though. Some of my friends and family are vegetarian (they used to be vegan) and the only thing I remember really when I think of them is that they are always ill with some cold or something. You can’t force anyone to eat food they are not comfortable with (ie meat) but I believe in eating a balanaced diet – I have always thought that that is the key to good health.

I believe you can be vegetarian and still sustain a healthy body. I also think you can be healthy having meat in your diet. The study you site is like so many others we have read in that scientists tell us “X” one day and “Y” (the opposite) the next day. Whether you choose to be vegetarian or not may not really matter. I think what does matter is our food supply. Unless we eat organic, or at least natural, foods – the risk of contamination is frightening. Eat a balanced diet of organic or natural foods (including natural meat if you wish) but also try to eat a reasonable size portion. We have become a society that simply puts too much on our plates.
