It depends upon what the bad memories are. Many of life’s important lessons are learned through learning things that do not work, or that cause unpleasant consequences. It would not be wise to “unlearn” these, because it would doom us to make the same mistakes again and again. Some experiences, however, are so horrifying they can distort one’s mental health. Post traumatic stress disorder in soldiers who have been in combat, is such an experience. Recent research has indicated a link between a drastic adrenaline rush and the experience which produces it.
