Would there be fewer teenage pregnancies and single mums if child benefits were stopped??

I’m from the US, but I have to say that, with or without benefits, there will always be teenagers and unmarried women getting pregnant. And since that’s the case, it’s best to make sure the children don’t starve to death and that they have access to a good education and adequate healthcare. By the way, I was raised by a single mother, and the only reason why she got pregnant was because she forgot to take the pill. I’m sure she wasn’t thinking about government benefits when it happened!

The best suggestion on here today. An end to child benefits and restoration of tax allowances for children would significantly reduce the production of wasteful eaters. To avoid abject child poverty, allowances could be paid to unemployed parents only on production of a certificate of sterilisation. The long term effect of these policies would reduce income and council tax, street crime and be very environmentally friendly.

Nope. There would be more abortions (illegal and otherwise) children living in poverty and unwanted situations. Pregnancies happen regardless if there’s a game plan or not.

I don’t think it would stop first time ‘unwanted’ pregnancies but once they’ve realised how tough bringing that child into the world was I think it could stop more accidental or unwanted pregnancies from the same woman.

The answer is simple NO. It is all down to their morals teenage girls are not completely informed about contraception plus if you want to be in the “IN” crowd in school you have to do what everyone else is doing. Plus alot of parents have no control anymore.
