Would the “Woodstock” generation have happened under an agrarian economic system?
“Progress,” “freedom,” “liberation,” “individuality,” and many more, these are the hallmarks of America and all of them were found at Woodstock. It seems that the economic philosophy of a nation determines its morality. I think Woodstock happened because we were two generations removed from a natural way of life on farms. The rot set in shortly after an initial burst of technological progress and material comfort. The rural to urban migration enabled the Woodstock mentality. I don’t think this social-change would have been possible if we valued self-sufficiency and simplicity over mass-consumption and a technological life of ease. We need to re-evaluate in the West. What should we keep and what mistakes did we make and need to improve. I don’t like the mentality of most white people now.
