Would the wind blow out a candle when floating in a balloon basket?
Yes. The wind would indeed blow the balloon along at a very similar speed to itself. However, the mass of the balloon would create a resistance to motion and that would cause the balloon to always travel slower than the prevailing wind. Thus you would always feel a slight but significant wind while in the basket, that would almost certainly be sufficient to extinquish the candle. MM..
