Would the tornado that struck Murfreesboro, TN killed more in its wake?
Murfreesboro will wake today to devastation, heartache and a scenario out of a war zone after a tornado ripped through the north edge of town. Two of its citizens — a 30-year-old mother and her 9-week-old daughter killed in the destruction Friday afternoon — won’t be among them. “I can’t think of anything that has been so devastating in my life in Murfreesboro,” Mayor Tommy Bragg said. Another 42 people were injured, including seven who sustained critical injuries in the storm that stretched from the Blackman community west of Interstate 24 to the Compton Road area northeast of Murfreesboro, some five miles distant. At least 100 homes were destroyed and 150 more received moderate to severe damage, officials said. The total cost of damages is estimated to be “in the millions.” “I certainly am shocked by the devastation that we’ve witnessed and undergone in the city of Murfreesboro,” Bragg said during a press conference at the Murfreesboro Police Department, where he was flanked by a sta
A mother and her infant were killed by a tornado that hit Murfreesboro, Tennessee, on Friday, a family member told CNN. About 36 people were injured, at least two of them critically, officials said. Early Saturday, officials said about 250 homes had been damaged or destroyed. The woman who was killed, Kori Bryant, was at home with her daughter, Olivia, when the tornado struck, said family member Mark McClure. Another family member, who found the mother and daughter after the tornado, said attempts were made to resuscitate the infant, but she couldn’t be saved, according to McClure. The baby was found in her car seat. Her parents had put her in the seat, thinking it would be safer for her, McClure said. The Bryants were in the hallway with the baby when the tornado struck. The woman’s husband, John Bryant, was found about two houses away, McClure said. His back and ribs were broken, and a lung had collapsed. He was taken to Vanderbilt University Hospital, and he will undergo surgery whe
The tornado was primarily swept through the middle Tennessee community. There is a possibility that it could’ve killed up to 105,000 people or more. 250 homes were either damaged or destroyed, and yet… it’s fortunate that the casualties only claimed 2 lives while 41 are now hospitalized. Of course, nearly 10,000 people are currently without power, and more may die if power doesn’t return soon. Sources: Examiner.
