Would the Tories have handled the UK economy, and subsequently the world financial system, better than labour?
I have a feeling that the Tories would not have allowed the economy in the UK to sink so low but I do not think the global recession could have been avoided. Gordon Brown was greedy and appears to have had no idea as to the repercussions of his actions. We believed him to be a man of stone when it reality he was made of very wet sand. Unfortunately, Blair had no idea as to what was happening for, if he had, he might well have taken action much earlier and perhaps the greedy banks and everyone else who have helped to ruin our great country would not have been in position to push our economy into virtual bankruptcy. It is time that we kick party politics into touch and form a coalition of the best minds to ensure that we fight the recession with some level of intelligence.
Yes. The tories would have managed the public finances a lot tighter – because they always do (thats what they’re all about) Of course what happens then is you get a load of tree huggers and liberals saying ‘Nasty tories, they’re going to close schools and hospitals’ In reality it is perfectly possible to reduce public spending and increase the quality of public services. Labour are blindly following their usual rubbish of ‘if you chuck loads of money at the problem it will go away’ I think it’s disgusting that Labour are spending TWICE what the tories were years ago and our public services are a real mess.
