Would the sims 2 and expansion packs install and run on an external hard drive?
It should work as long as you install all of the games to the external hard drive, and all to the same location on the external hard drive. But one important factor is that it should be able to access the external hard drive at the same speed your computer is running at (which most hard drives don’t have the same speed) So look for one with a Data Transfer rate of 480Mbps (480 Mega bites per second), and also look for one that has 7200 Rotations per minute (so look for 7200RPM. This isn’t necessarily needed, because these features can get expensive, but I would definitely recommend one with these settings if you want to play games from them. Then you should be able to just create a shortcut to your desktop to play naturally. Some games do have a feature where they only allow you to install to the C drive though, although everything that I’m reading about the Sims 2 specifically, says that it should be able to work on an external hard drive.
