Would the filming of a rollercoaster by classed as video art?
if it is just straightforward shot while riding a roller coaster, no, I would not think it’s art. In addition those movies exist for those 3D movie theaters and you wouldn’t really be able to compete with that. If you want to make a movie about roller coasters you would need to consider what you want to communicate about riding a roller coaster. Is it the speed? You could exaggerate that by shooting at a lower frame rate. If it’s the exitement you might want to not show the ride at all, but just a closeup of the face of one person experiencing the ride. That would be much more interesting. Think about how you can make a movie about a roller coaster say something which isn’t extremely obvious and hasn’t been done often before. And please, make sure you do not film anything from a handheld video camera.
