Would Peter Mandelson really be more popular as PM than Gordon Brown?

I don’t think that there should be any great surprise that as one of the founder members of New Labour, that Peter Mandelson would want his chance to shine. He backed Blair in 97 (and before) and has backed Brown since Blair left. However, as he could have led a rebellion against Brown after the Euro elections – he now sees that Brown is a lame duck and his chance may be at hand. You can’t blame him for that. However, I think he’s misjudged the mood. I don’t think people are ready for him to be PM. He isn’t liked enough. I do feel that if Brown gets in again – that there is likely to have been “an agreement” similar to the one Blair is supposed to have made with Brown that he would hand over the reins of government at some point after the next election… His sexuality is irrelevant – to the point where it shouldn’t really have appeared in your question imo. I’d have thought that went without saying. btw – I’d rather Mandy or Brown than Mr Macarooooon.
