Would performing a Registry fix on my computer break files?
Theoretically a good registry cleaner won’t harm anything. But from experience, they sometimes do – even the best ones. So, definitely back up any personal data you have first. Most reg cleaners will scan the registry “first” before doing anything – then they’ll give you a long list of fixes and let you choose the ones you want. These can often be very confusing. So, whatever cleaner you use, just tell it to do the “minimum” fixes first – don’t let it go totally crazy. Then if that doesn’t help the speed of your PC, you can run it again and let it try to totally fix the registry. CCleaner ( http://www.ccleaner.com/ ) is a very popular free cleaner and usually does a good job, but I’ve also seen it totally screw up a PC or 2. I don’t know what OS you run, but if the reg gets totally screwed and won’t boot, Windows will “usually” bring you to a screen at bootup that gives you the option to restore the old registry before you ruined it
