Would opening my computer up and cleaning the dust out from inside improve my computers speed?

Yes it can… But not likely.. The only reason your computer would be going slow from dust is that it gets too hot and your computer stops from working so hard so it will not fry all your components to your computer. To speed up your computer you should remove alot of start up items to free up RAM and unecessary background programs. To do this go to Start>Run>(type) msconfig Then go to the start up tab and remove the items you do not want to start up when you reset your computer. Then restart your computer. This will speed up your computer dramatically.
