Would newspaper ink contaminate an organic garden? Why, or why not?

Most inks these days are made with soy. Even the petroleum-based ones aren’t bad for the garden – the black is mostly just carbon, no matter what the source, and the colors are organic (in the chemistry sense) aniline dyes which break down readily in compost piles. The only inks you have to worry about are metallic or fluorescent ones – those have substances you don’t want in your garden, so put them in the trash.
