Would Lowering the Minimum Legal Drinking Age Help Decrease Dangerous Drinking on College Campuses?

0

Saturday, May 30, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Alcohol misuse has been a vexing public health problem on many college campuses for several years. Over 130 college presidents recently signed on to the Amethyst Initiative in order to encourage a national debate regarding the effectiveness of strategies in decreasing dangerous drinking, including lowering the minimum legal drinking age as well as the use of certain harm reduction educational interventions. In this presentation, John McCardell, PhD (Middlebury College), and Robert Saltz, PhD (the Prevention Research Center), will provide a comprehensive review of the pros and cons of rethinking the minimum drinking age laws as well as discussing the use of alternative health education initiatives. Audience participation will be encouraged in a question and answer segment.
