The old school guys go with laying plastic filler directly on the metal. The new school teaches that you apply it over the primer but only if it is etching primer. We think the old school observations are left over from the days of using lead as a filler. We opt for the new school approach providing you are not speading filler an inch deep. Any dents should be massaged so that your filler requirements are kept to a absolute minimum…. Happy Filling and wear a mask when you are sanding it down….
