Yes, any lens compatible with the D70 should be compatible with the D90. By going to the D90 rather than the D40 or D500 you will have the same autofocusing with AF-D lenses that you had with the D70. The lighter models have no built in autofocus motor, and can only autofocus with the AF-S lenses (which provide their own motor). There are some old Nikon non-AI lenses that would not be compatible with the D90, but those weren’t compatible with the D70 either. There are some manual only lenses that will not meter with the D90, but I don’t think those metered with the D70.
