Would Laurie ever stand for the verbal abuse House routinely dishes out to his patients?
“I love abuse,” he cracks, then quickly turning serious. “If your life is hanging in the balance, the most important thing to you at that moment is going to see the best person for the job. If you have an ingrown toenail then probably that abuse would take on a different (meaning). But if your life is hanging in the balance, of course you would withstand any amount of abuse to get the job done and to get the life saved.” Although Laurie is known to American audiences as an actor, he has many more behind-the-scenes talents. He’s directed TV shows and commercials in England, composed and recorded songs and has written scholarly articles for London’s The Daily Telegraph. He also wrote a novel, The Gun Seller, an 007-like yarn with terrorist themes, that has been optioned for a movie. He’s reportedly “tinkering” with another one. With that kind of intellect, Laurie certainly must drive the House producers crazy with character notes. “Hugh will often come up with funny lines,” says Shore. “
