Would it be wise for Islamic countries to separate their religion from their politics?

All western countries eventually progressively after the Middle Ages as the conflicts between church and reason became evident. The Islamic countries and other religious states will also. it’s just a matter of time and education of the population with a 21st century education plus an understanding at a personal level that religion is damaging their politics and hence, indirectly, themselves. Unfortunately for the western world, the middle east is still in its feudal/religious authority middle ages, but hopefully they will escape from it quicker than the west did with the advent of modern communications and media and the free passage and availability of information. The democratisation and free availability of information is the greatest weapon a free world holds against any dictatorial system, religious, political, ideological or otherwise, hence the reason that such state try to be repressive of modern information methods, such as the internet.
