Would Intel rule the roost in mobile space with Moorestown Platform?
Intel Corp, the world’s largest chipmaker, holds more than 80 percent market share of PC processors. The chipzilla has announced the launch of its 32nm Westmere desktop processors. Recently, the company has also launched its new Pine Trail chips especially for netbooks, which is expected to increase by 14 percent to more than $46 billion in 2010 and Intel wants to have a share in it too. Now, with its latest Moorestown Platform, the company wants to excel in mobile space too. At present, PC vendors are moving in opposite direction, using phone chips to impress users of PCs and consumer electronics. Analysts predict that the new paradigm shift in the preferences of the consumers for such processors is emerging as a danger alarm for Intel.
