Would India progress faster with communism?
The more progressive states there are run by communists, e.g. Kerala. Many of its social indicators are on par with the developed world and it has the highest human development index in India. It also has the highest literacy rate (more than 90%) and life expectancy in India, lowest infant mortality, lowest school drop-out rate, and a fairly prosperous countryside. But as in China, so in India – communism can only lift it to a certain level, but it does help to “clear the way” for rapid advance if the leaders are bold and wise enough to make the transition to controlled market liberalisation at the right time, e.g. Deng.
