Would increasing the number and size of speed limit signs encourage motorists to slow down?
Increasing the number of speed limit signs is somewhat effective during the first month or two after installation. However, after motorists become aware of the signs, effectiveness is reduced and typically drivers begin to ignore the signs. Additional signs may reduce the aesthetic qualities of neighborhoods and residents may be opposed, especially in newer tracts.
