Would increasing bus fares create enough revenue to add more service?

No. Although many riders have said they would be willing to pay increased fares to restore evening or weekend bus service, fare revenue alone simply isn’t enough. For example, current farebox recovery (the percentage of operating costs covered by fare revenue) is only about 25% for Mountain Metro fixed-route bus service and 27% for FrontRange Express. Nowhere in the country do fares cover the cost of providing public transit. Additional local, state, and/or federal funds are necessary. Q: Do Mountain Metro bus drivers have any input regarding route planning? A: No. Bus drivers for all MMT services – including Mountain Metro fixed-route, Metro Mobility ADA paratransit, FrontRange Express (FREX), and Ute Pass Express – are actually employees of service providers contracted by the City of Colorado Springs. They are not City employees. Transit operations staff employed by the City of Colorado Springs meet routinely with service providers regarding bus routes and service recommendations. Ci
