Would I major in sociology in college in order to become a social worker?

I have answered this question many times. The answer is a very solid NO. A social worker always has a degree in social work. You are possibly able to have a job in the social service industry with a degree in sociology, but in order to be specifically a social worker, you must have a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work (BSW). Many social work jobs also require a social work license which you are unable to get unless you have a degree in social work. Like I said, you can find some positions in the social service field, but if the job specifically states the it is a position for a social worker, you will need that degree.
