You should apply to UCLA now before you just assume you’re they won’t accept you. A lot of college are willing to cut you a little slack on freshman year as long as your overall GPA is okay, your ACT/SAT scores are good and you write a good admissions letter. Growing up would be a great theme for the letter and you can explain exactly what went wrong freshman year. Also try to be unique, for instance you can make a paper mache version of the mascot if you are good at art to send to them at the same times as your admissions essay. If you took some extra currics they might let you in. If not, then try another university, and transfer to UCLA from that university. Community College is not the only answer, and many universities like it better if you transfer from a univeristy than a community college anyway. Either way they, you won’t know unless you try.
