Would Harvard Medical School oversee the affiliates research programs and funding?
HMS affiliated hospitals and research institutions will continue to maintain their own independent research programs, but there may be a larger number of areas in which they collaborate with the School and other Harvard affiliates. How will decisions be made and on what timetable? A small group of representatives from HMS, Partners, and CareGroup, working with consultants, will continue to meet to collect and analyze data on the potential benefits of various collaborative projects. In the next few months, they expect to reach some broad, initial conclusions about what types of joint ventures will be explored further. Are there antitrust or other legal questions raised by possible collaboration?
