Would going back in time and doing something create a paradox?

i don’t really see how that would cause a paradox if you did something that some-one else was meant to do like invent something. all you would do is change the circumstances of that person that could have massive consequences or very little a Paradox as i understand it would be caused if some how you stole the secrets from another scientist how to time travel in 2015 but you knew you would be found out as a cheat so you went back in time to 1985 when you was 18 and gave all the info to your 19 year old self but said, you must pretend you worked all this out but do it in the year 2011 that will be before the real inverter started work on time travel so no-one can claim its not your work.
